'Pink Metal' is Simo Soo’s first album of 2019 (relevant as they released 4 of them in 2018) and sees the artist in their most abrasive, yet somehow, most accessible record yet.

Simo Soo is an anomaly within the Australian hip hop scene. They are a keen experimentalist with a love of pop music theory, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist who would rather be using Ableton and the sole employee of their own record label, Yes Rave.

Their new album, 'Pink Metal' sees the artist mixing maximalist brightly shining beats and the literal dragging of sheet metal through AutoTune with lyrics dealing with creative burnout, gender, sex, trauma and the intersection of mental health and addiction.

Opening track 'Metal' begins with Soo crooning over a layered string section before exploding into an industrial noise rap banger. 'Toy' finds Soo speaking on the Western Sydney drinking culture they grew up around over walls of pitched up vocals before a sudden left turn into scathing political punk rock aimed squarely at Australia’s current government.

Iconic rapper Lil B turns up on 'Hot Mess' for a surprisingly grunge verse before closer, 'Warp' ends with Soo listing off their addictions over a beat that sounds like a Nintendo 64 underwater level run through a million VHS tapes.

Production across the entire record is handled by Soo with all the trademarks of their future thinking hip hop beats paired with a new found sense of restraint and gloss that sees the artist reaching new heights.
