Newcastle Park is a concept album I worked on for quite some time. Many of these songs are autobiographical in nature and are recollections of people, places, and events that have shaped who I am as a person today. Overarching lyrical themes on the album include a fond remembrance of the lazy days of youth in the 1990s, growing up in a small town, forging lifelong friendships, the seemingly endless summers, and a "coming of age" undercurrent detailing the trials and tribulations of transitioning out of childhood and navigating the uncertain future.
Conceptualization, arrangements, development, and demos were worked on from 2020 to 2023. Recording the final versions began in May 2023 and ended in November 2023. Editing, mixing, and final processing lasted from November 2023 to February 2024.
This album is dedicated to my patient wife and my two sons. Special thanks to my two year old son William for having had to endure listening to an endless stream of demos and test mixes in the car, until he was immediately able to identify and refer to them as "Dadda's music."
Special thanks to M. Poirier for being nearby during this entire process, offering feedback, emotional support, sanity management, and helping me design the final album cover.
Woods of Light is the solo project of Brian G., hailing from Quebec, Canada. All songs are produced, recorded, and mixed at my home studio, Ravenwood.
