“Steve Earle used to talk about nuts and bolts, the framework that makes a song a song. Oi music, despite a million clichéd lyrics about rebellion, has always adhered to that cleaner, orderly approach to the craft. That’s part of the charm, don’t you think? We like galvanized steel from the hardware store down the street because we get distracted by shiny things, but what would a song sound like if someone put it together with rusted out old bolts from the side of the road? The Stance do more with rusty hardware than anybody on the job site paying down union dues. This is Oi music set to outlaw country riffs with an angular, lurching rhythm section poured through a coffee filter that Sheer Terror threw in the trash before any of these kids were even born. There’s nothing easy about The Stance, there’s nothing accessible, but they aren’t looking to provide the soundtrack to your drunken escapades down the local pub because they’re far more concerned with sanding down broken glass into guitar picks and pounding on a drum kit with a sledgehammer. Go home and throw your record collection in a fire, but take out all the shitty ones first. When you pick up that heaping mass of melted plastic and throw it on the turntable - watching that needle warbling through ugly grooves of punk, sludge, Oi, and country two step - you might get an idea of what The Stance do. They just do it better.”
