B-Boy Break it Down / Tribal Step is a debut collaboration between South London producers Last Nubian and JJAMZ. After originally meeting via Peckham radio station Balamii, a chance conversation in the Fabric smoking area led the duo to hit the studio last summer, a collaboration that allowed them both to explore a more dance-floor orientated sound.
Inspired by old school Broken Beat, the project is also influenced by the recent revival of the UK’s Tribal House & UK funky scenes, as well as spiritual percussion styles reminiscent of artists like Osunlade and Trinidadian Deep. The project encapsulates the simmering melting pot that is South London, with both producers’ shared love for deep and soulful dance music coming to light.
Track 1 features the soulful vocals of Manchester-based artist, DJ and poet Sophia Harari, who tells the story of an imagined B-Boy.
