Although often placed under the umbrella of industrial music, Die Warzau transcended stylistic barriers to defy strict categorization, much to the chagrin of critics, and the bewildered fascination of audiences.

Formed in 1987 by Jim Marcus and Van Christie, the band was soon to break out of the Chicago underground scene and set the entire musical world ablaze with an innovative approach that combined a myriad of influences - industrial, EBM, hip-hop, funk, dub, house, techno, rock, jazz, and world music found their way into Die Warzau's music, augmented by adventurous live shows that fused the energy of punk and the visual splendor of performance art. On top of that, the band's lyrics championed "the other" in true industrial fashion, addressing issues of social injustice, perpetual war, authoritarian governments, religious oppression, and total mental, emotional, and sexual liberation - "Pro-Sex / Anti-War" - a trend that would continue in Jim Marcus' current band, GoFight, often viewed as a spiritual successor to Die Warzau.

Four studio albums, numerous singles, remixes, compilations, and DJ sets, and a smorgasbord of collaborators that have included members of Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Sister Machine Gun, Stabbing Westward, Pigface, Colla Destra, The Psychedelic Furs, and even Parliament Funkadelic.

Die Warzau officially disbanded in 2011, reuniting in 2013 to perform at the second ColdWaves to honor the memory of fellow Chicago trailblazer Jamie Duffy, and then again in 2015 for one last show. Yet, the band's music remains as powerful now as it has been over the past 30+ years, with new waves of outsider music rediscovering Die Warzau.
