TRAINDODGE was a project I did with Kris and Nolan from Chimp Attach (later Forte Emprise) when I was itching to try something new. Kris wrote these songs that were like a mixture of Against Me! and Hot Water Music. He and Nolan could just riff off of each other for days.

We started practicing in Kris' barn (which is where the kitty in the picture came from) in Red Bluff. He and Nolan had just gotten their second DUIs, but were still riding motorcycles, because...how else do you get around in Red Bluff? I was driving to Red Bluff from Redding every weekend during the summer in my Subaru with no AC in like, 100+ degree weather. Kris' stepdad's friends would sit and drink beer and listen to us and tell me that I'd "get my first DUI someday".

We eventually migrated to a house that Kris' brother owned in town where we practiced upstairs in the bonus room that had a full bar. It was weird. Around the same time, we started working on Dying For It 1.0. We'd practice these songs and then immediately start banging out all 10 of the DFI demo tape/first record songs.

TRAINDODGE played 1-2 shows at bars in Red Bluff with Kris on vocals and guitar. We needed a separate singer so he could shred and honestly, a bassist so Nolan could switch to second guitar. This project got put on pause as soon as DFI took off. Oh well. RIP.
