Dragon’s Eye Recordings is proud to present IN FONDO, the latest work by Berlin-based composer Manuel Carbone. On IN FONDO, Carbone draws on memories of a calm Mediterranean Sea to evoke a meditative drift between dream and recollection. This album represents a departure for the artist; as he abandons field recordings for the first time, relying solely on synthetic sounds to render natural landscapes.

Carbone describes the album as “a diary or sparse shreds of a diary,” offering fragments of memory that avoid direct interpretation. Rather than a narrative of separation from one’s homeland, IN FONDO is an abstract reflection—a fluid meditation on the universal and personal nature of detachment, belonging, and longing.

On IN FONDO, some sounds repeat in distorted cadences, their rhythms fractured and uneven. Others hover on the edge of audibility, whispering just beneath the surface. At times, melodies emerge boldly in the foreground, their sharp contours cutting through the haze; at others, they grow dim and undefined, sinking into shadow. Familiar tones evoke moments of warmth and endearment, only to clash with discordant, abrasive harmonies before retreating, fading, and reemerging into the light.

Composed and recorded between 2022 and 2024 in Berlin, IN FONDO invites listeners to explore the spaces between presence and absence, reality and reverie. It’s an invitation to listen, not just to the music but to the shared, unspoken resonance of distant origins and the quiet echoes of memory.

Manuel Carbone is an Italian sound experimentalist and noise artist from Naples, currently based in Berlin.

He has released solo and collaborative works via German non-profit interdisciplinary label Adventurous Music (notably two studio albums, “Tutto Il Resto Sparisce” and “Coral Melodies”, and a live documentation, “Leipzig 21/10/23”), Falt (France) and Minimal Resource Manipulations (UK).
