The title track of Kraak & Smaak's 2025 album Velvet Seas is also its emotional core: a broad, sweeping piece of music built around the gospel schooled voice of Izo FitzRoy, rising over synthesizers in a way that feels genuinely uplifting, close to spiritual and full of light.

It is a natural fit, then, for Ray Mang, one of British dance music's true lifers. Active since his first 12" landed in 1996, and the founder of his own Mangled imprint two years later, Mang has spent three decades developing a deeply analogue, percussion driven sound rooted in disco, house, boogie and dub, and has reshaped tracks for artists ranging from underground regulars to rock royalty, always guided by the same unhurried instinct for a room full of dancers.

His reading of Velvet Seas gives the song the space to fully stretch out. An extended, percussion driven arrangement provides the engine, warm and dubby, as FitzRoy climbs and soars above it. What felt like a sunrise on the album becomes something altogether more floor bound here, rich and hypnotic, building with patience toward a peak that earns every second of the wait.
