For this first release of edits, Kactus Koraï has been digging in the attic, and decided to bring you two of our favorite gems from the caribbean 80s !
The first one "Mwen domi dewo" is a real classic from Guadeloupe, relating the struggle and disapointment of a Guadeloupean freshly arrived in Paris and ending up sleeping in the street .. Written, composed and released by the mythic band " Super Combo " in 1975 ( by the legendary Label Disque Debs) it soon became a classic in its genre , but it's the 1989's version recorded by Rico that we decided to humbly re-edit : a sugar voice for an infectious melody and a beautifull lyrics (in Kreol ) , where the 80s zouk synth meets some almost-cuban horns and congas on a not not-too-fast but deep tropical groove making it a big hit...That you might start singing or whistling all day very soon! The second edit " disco power " is a rare Calypso banger released in new york in 1980 by the antiguan singer Vernon Benjamin aka King Solo. When Disco arrived in the caribbean in the mid 70s, it soon started melting up with the traditional islands styles such as Calypso, Mento, Ska, Reggae or Soca and this is what this song is just about: A happy date beetween the afro-caribbean voodoo world and the disco ball, where the islands carnival's energy is sharing the dancefloor with the club culture !
