Diego “El Rey” de la Noche Valenciana is the most recent piece in Terry Riley’s series of guitar compositions entitled The Book of Abbeyozzud. Written as a birthday gift for his son Gyan in 2015, it harkens back to the first solo he wrote for Gyan’s 18th birthday, called Piedad (from the album Food for the Bearded).

“Gyan Riley is a one-man American-music machine, amicably ranging across the fields of jazz, world music, and post-minimalism." (The New Yorker) He has performed with Zakir Hussain, Lou Reed, John Zorn, Bill Frisell, the Kronos Quartet, Lee Ranaldo, Julian Lage, Glenn Kotche, and Terry Riley. Gyan lives in Brooklyn and tours worldwide.
