Originally released on the French label Transes Européennes in 1997 and long out of print, this concert was the first musical meeting of Fred and Jean-Pierre and marked the beginning of many years of collaborations.
“to play: take the music by surprise; enjoy it head over heels; burst out laughing whenever beauty gets a little scratched; loudly murmur and howl at the tips of one’s fingers; remember the snatch of a draft of a song from ages past; dare the unknown, over and over again…
together: surprise even one’s own self before surprising the other; anticipate anything unexpected or incongruous; never refuse the held out breath, the hand offered; seize the sound and expand it with unspoken elan, risk one’s skins, throw one’s strings into nothingness, rub up against each other as if in some imaginary dance.”
From the original notes by Alex Dutilh, editor, Jazzman magazine
With deepest thanks to François Verret, Claudine Brahem, and Pablo Cueco.
