Energy Islands is inspired by the renewable energy innovation taking place in our homeland of Orkney. Having been born and raised among its breathtaking natural beauty, we wanted to highlight Orkney's role in raising awareness of, and curbing, the climate crisis.

The European Marine Energy Centre has been in Orkney since 2003 and due to the islands' advantageous climatic conditions, Orkney has become a key area for the advancement in technologies harnessing green energy through tides, waves and wind. Orkney's natural resources provide an invaluable contribution to the global effort to protect the fragilities of our planet.

To us, this feels like a physical manifestation of the energy that traditional music brings to our communities. As Laura Watts wrote in her book Energy at the End of the World: 'Feel the Energy Islands with all your senses'.

FARA is Kristan Harvey, Jeana Leslie and Catriona Price’s three fiddles combined with Rory Matheson’s piano. The quartet produces a fiery sound rooted strongly in their upbringing among the music of Orkney.

FARA perform a mixture of self-penned and traditional Orkney tunes as well as stunning vocals.
