TWELVE STUDIES FOR HURDY-GURDY

The trigger of this work was the gracious loan of an alto hurdy-gurdy with a warm sound by my luthier Jean-Claude Boudet. Whereas I usually play on a very tense soprano gurdy. The Cefedem Music Center in Lyon provided the framework and the impetus for this creation. I started with a rather hypnotic rhythmic and melodic motive. A triad of neighbor notes, repeated four times. With this motive, I explore the drone games and the instrument's color palette.

This alto hurdy-gurdy has two melodic strings (chanterelle), in D and G, three drones, in D, G and C, and a C trumpet that can be mounted in D or G. The strings set is given for each study.

DOUZE ÉTUDES POUR VIELLE À ROUE

Le déclic de cet album fut le prêt grâcieux d'une vielle à roue alto au son chaleureux par mon luthier Jean-Claude Boudet. Alors que je joue habituellement sur une vielle soprano très aigue. Le Cefedem de Lyon a donné le cadre et l'impulsion à cette création. Je suis parti d'un motif assez prégnant. Une triade de notes voisines répétée quatre fois. Avec ce motif, j'explore les jeux de bourdons et la palette de couleurs de l'instrument.

La vielle à roue alto dispose de deux chanterelles, en ré et sol, de trois bourdons, en ré, sol et do, et d'une trompette en do montable en ré ou en sol. Le jeu de cordes est précisé pour chaque étude.
