Verdant Acre is a massive new project by Coppice Halifax, conceived in Autumn 2011 with initial recording sessions commencing in November 2011. Heavily inspired by the deep ambient techno forests of GAS, the emotive washes of sadness in Yagya, the textural playgrounds of early Vladislav Delay and the brilliant detritus of The Caretaker, Verdant Acre spans a projected six or seven volumes of music, each to be released individually over the coming months. Recorded and assembled using only two drum machines, a mixer, FX devices and damaged orchestral vinyl, the music of Verdant Acre is wild, overgrown and unfamiliar, mirroring much of the dense swamp and marsh lands that Brian grew up exploring as a young man. The songs ooze green mutated growth, earthy darkness and muddy humid atmospheres, where recognizable melodies become tangled and dissonant like vines sprawling up an oak tree, and submerged womblike rhythms provide the only anchor in the abyss. Ideal listening for varying levels of consciousness.
