Tama Kaya is the debut studio album by the Filipino rock band Bubblegoo, released 19th of November 2013 at Route196, Katipunan Ave., Quezon City. The album was recorded at On-Air Recording Studio, Planet Y Recording Studio, and Rocket Lunch Recording Studio in a span of a little more than a year between 2012 and 2013. It has 14 tracks with a total playing time of 57:57. The launch was fully supported by Green Apple Production. Album title was coined by Tobit Rubio, the band’s frontman, which was loosely agreed upon by the rest of the band members. It was originally Tama Kaya?, but they decided to drop the question mark to avoid the album title being connected to The Strokes’ debut album Is This It?, which actually was their reference in the whole album sound. With the album title, Tobit explained that he’s like questioning the band’s direction since they all developed their interest in music while being active in a Christian community music ministry, but later got caught up doing secular music.
Following the release of Tama Kaya, Bubblegoo would deviate from its primary influences toward more trebly and aggressive sound. The album received a warm welcoming from friends, friends of friends, and music enthusiasts who observe the ongoing indie scene. There are few comments about underdeveloped 2nd guitar sounds throughout the album, which the band admitted that they had last minute decisions adding on the recording, considering they only have one guitarist when playing live and originally planned to sound as natural as they could in the album as when performing live.
Bubblegoo is a Filipino Rock band formed in Baler, Aurora in 2007, consisting of Tobit Rubio (vocals and guitar), Mark Israel (bass and backing vocals) and Apa Rivera (drums and backing vocals).
