Having committed an unforgivable crime, a man is spared from the death penalty but must spend the rest of his days confined to a deserted island, inhabited by a small community from a village that the prisoner must not attempt to approach. Serving as the keeper of the lighthouse, effectively his new home, he will have the opportunity to redeem himself through discipline and isolation (---the boat escorts him to the island and, a few kilometers from the coast, drops anchor and waits for nightfall to leave the prisoner, who must reach the shore alone, facing the sea---).

Life inside the lighthouse and its surroundings is alienating and extreme, as if ravaged by the very waves and the salt carried by the biting wind that constantly lashes the island. Only at dusk he can enjoy a moment of rest which, however, is regularly disturbed by a distant rumble that captures the attention of the prisoner, who can see just smoke rising from a valley between two rocky peaks at a distance. Confined as he is, over time his mind seems to lose clarity. What he hears is no longer a sound; it becomes a constant of voices, then screams. Fearing he is experiencing the first signs of madness brought on by total solitude, he wants to leave behind the unease that is dangerously enveloping him (---he steps outside the perimeter within which he has been allowed to move to try to understand the origin of what he hears in the distance---).

He walks along a path, venturing into the underbrush above the lighthouse when, after several minutes of walking, he is suddenly ambushed by dark figures, unrecognizable shapes in the darkness of vegetation that, in truth, was denser than he perceived. He tries to escape, running breathlessly, wanting to return to his "home", although unsure if he can retrace his steps. As far and fast as he goes, a few rays of sunlight filtering through give him hope to find the clearing from which he started, and as visibility improves, the shadows of his pursuers fall further behind and they become clearer when he turns around; in them, he recognizes seemingly normal people, probably from the rural community that inhabits the island, who are now shouting that he will not survive.

He reaches the clearing, but it is not the one behind the lighthouse. Above it stands a factory from which warm smoke is rising; around the structure, two cliffs of solid rock loom. He is probably in the place from which the noises that led him to abandon his place of redemption originate. (Entrance) A gigantic machine activates, revealing a conveyor belt on which people of both sexes are trapped inside what appear to be bizarre torture boxes. Some doors swing open, and the lighthouse keeper must fight against creatures that are half human and half animal with mechanical implants, they want him dead. To escape them, he must use cunning, but he falls into a sort of numbness, a sleep, a condition in which he cannot tell if what he is experiencing is reality or just a nightmare.

Upon waking, he finds himself facing seven figures. Seven trials to overcome, seven people to defeat and kill. He will succeed despite excruciating suffering and impossible fatigue. (Exit) Outside the death structure, he realizes that behind a (presumed?) seemingly harmless village lies the execution of a well-defined plan: the deportation of criminal subjects with uncommon abilities on whom experiments are conducted to create an elite of superior soldiers. During his return to the lighthouse, he reflects on what he has just experienced and feels the need for revenge.

A ship, at the first light of dawn, sends out some signals and drops the anchor. It is the same vessel that brought him to the island. The following night, the guard heads towards it to free the criminal who was supposed to take his place. They will kill the crew of the ship. A new boat will come to seek for the missing ship. A new deportation, a new promise of redemption, another person to truly free. And so on. The island will be colonized by outcasts of society who will chase redemption through the most difficult of coexistences.
